More than 270 female students were safely evacuated when a fire tore through the second floor of an elementary girls' school in Bisha region Monday. The school teachers had battled the flames with fire extinguishers until a civil Defense unit arrived and finished it off. The fire was believed to have started due to a short circuit. Braik Safar, assistant director of Bisha education department, said that they will launch an investigation to make sure it won't happen again. He thanked the staff for their bravery to stand up and fight the fire, saying that the staff had received fire management and evacuation training. Since the beginning of the school year in September, at least 7 fires in girls' schools have been reported across the Kingdom. This has led the Civil Defense to warn about a lack of safety conditions and poor maintenance of wiring and airconditioning units across the girls' schools. – Okaz/SG __
