King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) announced on Monday that 17 students were granted the University's Researchers Scholarship. The students – including 7 Saudis, two of which are women – were selected out of 104 candidates who applied for scholarship in 2007. Other selected doctorate students are from China, Germany, India, Singapore, Turkey and the US. The scholarship program aims to appreciate and support doctorate students, who are academically distinguished in the field of research, to continue their research in domains that are of interest to the KAUST at any international university of their choosing. Dr. Shih Choon Fong, KAUST's president, said the program enables the university to be connected to students and potential talented teachers from all over the world. Participating students will contribute in solving scientific and technical problems, which will benefit Saudi Arabia and the world. __
