About 5,800 traffic violation tickets have been issued in Jeddah since the beginning of new traffic regulations. Of them, 1,975 were non-Saudis. The violations include using mobile phone while driving, throwing garbage from the car, embarking and disembarking while the vehicle was still moving and driving too slowly thus obstructing traffic. Brig. Muhammad Hasan Al-Qahtani, Director of Traffic Department in Jeddah, said 50 percent of the traffic violations were by people of over 40 years of age.
