A French professor has begun a visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday to deliver a number of lectures on the latest developments in the treatment of benign and malignant breast tumors. Dr. Richard Linder, Chief Surgeon at the College of Medicine in Paris, will discuss a new technique used for the first time in the Kingdom in the area of plastic surgery needed after tumors have been removed. He told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the technique consists of using advanced laser treatment, particularly that of tumors, advanced burn scars, and breast and abdomen plastic surgeries to correct deformities caused by obesity, a rampant phenomenon in Arabian Gulf countries. Professor Linder said that post-breast cancer surgeries which use the new CO2 laser technique have registered highly successful results. The technique is also considered a breakthrough in the area of plastic surgery for tumors and burns. He noted that the high incidence of breast cancer led to research and scientific studies that has culminated in restoring confidence to patients who undergo total or partial mastectomy. “Breast reconstitution has now become possible with the use of extremely advanced laser techniques,” he said, adding that the rate of success of these operations has become quite high. __
