In the presence of CEO of the Saudi Electricity Company and Chairman of Rabigh Electricity Co.Rabigh Power Plant, Deputy Minister for Electricity Dr. Saleh Al-Awaji inaugurates the first independent project for the production of electrical power in Saudi Arabia. RABIGH – The first independent project for the production of electrical power in Saudi Arabia was inaugurated with a total investment cost of approximately SR10 billion in Rabigh City with generation capacity of 1204 megawatts (MW). It was inaugurated on May 29 by the Deputy Minister for Electricity Dr. Saleh Al-Awaji, under the auspices of the Minister of Water and Electricity Eng. Abdullah A. Al-Hossein. This is the first of the company's projects in which the private sector participated in building an independent power plant. This move is aimed at enhancing the Kingdom's generating power capacity. Dr. Abdullah Al-Shehri, Governor of Electricity & Co-Generation Regulatory Authority (ECRA), Eng. Ziad Al-Shiha, Chief Executive Officer of Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) and Eng. Thamer Al-Sharhan, Chairman of Rabigh Arabian Water and Electricity Co. (RAWEC) and some officials of water and electricity sectors participated at the inauguration ceremony. Rabigh independent power plant is one of the mega power projects that contribute to the promotion of power in Saudi Arabia. – SG
