The Anaheim Ducks won a matchup of the past two Stanley Cup champions, edging the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 in overtime in the NHL on Wednesday. Francois Beauchemin batted in a rebound 1:39 into overtime for the winner, capitalizing on the efforts of Teemu Selanne, who scored three goals for his 21st NHL hat trick, and Ryan Getzlaf, who had five assists. Brian Sutherby gave the Ducks a 4-3 lead with 7:04 left to play, but the Red Wings pulled even with 1:23 remaining when Henrik Zetterberg notched his second goal of the game and seventh of the new season. Beauchemin scored the overtime winner with a swat after a save sent the puck fluttering in the air. The score was scrutinized by video replay before the Ducks could celebrate. The loss was the first in six road games for the reigning champion Detroit, who also got two goals from Pavel Datsyuk. Selanne, whose three goals doubled his season total, tied the franchise record for power-play goals in a game, tying the mark set by Paul Kariya in 2001 at San Jose. The hat trick was his 12th with Anaheim. His 558 career goals moved him past Johnny Bucyk into 21st place on the NHL career list. Maple Leafs 6, Devils 5: In New Jersey, Niklas Hagman scored on a backhand in the fourth round of the shootout to give Toronto a narrow win over New Jersey. After Hagman gave Toronto the shootout lead, goalie Vesa Toskala secured the win with a block save on Jamie Langenbrunner. In regulation, Matt Stajan scored twice and Alex Steen, Jamal Mayers and Alexei Ponikarovsky added goals for Toronto. The Devils got goals from David Clarkson, Dainius Zubrus, Jamie Langenbrunner, Colin White and Zach Parise but lost their third straight. Stars 4, Wild 2: At Dallas, stand-in goalie Tobias Stephan made 19 saves, Brenden Morrow scored 13 seconds into the game, and Dallas handed Minnesota its first loss this season in regulation time. Stephan, filling in for Marty Turco, made his first start of the season and second of his career. The Stars jumped to a 3-1 lead after the first, forcing goalie Niklas Backstrom out of the game in favor of backup Josh Harding.
