The first batch of 24 federal ministers was administered oath by President Pervez Musharraf Monday with the new cabinet members belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wearing black armbands. This was the first time in Pakistan's history that some MPs sported black armbands during their oath-taking as ministers to protest against Musharraf's stay as president of Pakistan, who was administering oath to them. However, they did take oath from him. Moments after the swearing-in ceremony ended, the PML-N ministers left the Aiwan-e-Sadr and did not attend the lunch hosted by Musharraf in honor of the new cabinet. Prime Minister Gilani was present at the ceremony. Musharraf's only words that he expressed during the function were “thanks and congratulations to all of you on being federal ministers.” There were 11 ministers from the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), nine from the PML-N, two from the Awami National Party (ANP) and one each from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and FATA.
