JEDDAH — The head of the society for infectious diseases said swine flu has not disappeared from the country and is still claiming lives, Al-Eqtisadiah daily reported. Dr. Nizar Bahabri said the media is not focusing on swine flu, but only on the coronavirus even though the World Health Organization (WHO) does not consider the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) to be an epidemic. He added that there is no reason whatsoever to close down summer camps for children and young adults or to avoid crowds, noting that the number of coronavirus victims is still below that of other diseases such as swine flu. Bahabri said canceling summer activities will only increase crowding of public areas and playgrounds and insisted that preventive measures are sufficient to protect the public from the virus.
