KANSAS CITY — Wei-Yin Chen and four Baltimore relievers combined to shut down the Kansas City Royals, and the Orioles earned a 2-1 win to end a four-game losing streak in the American League here Thursday. Chen (5-2) limited the Royals (20-20) to one run on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings before turning over the lead to the bullpen. Twins 4, Red Sox 3 (10 innings): Aaron Hicks' sharp single to left with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Kurt Suzuki from second and lifted the Minnesota Twins to a win against the Boston Red Sox. Hicks, who entered the day hitting .167, picked up Twins closer Glen Perkins, who allowed two runs to Boston (20-20) in the top of the ninth in blowing his second save of the season. Perkins blown save spoiled another great start by Minnesota (19-20) righty Phil Hughes, who tossed six innings and allowed one run. Blue Jays 4, Indians 2: Edwin Encarnacion homered twice, Juan Francisco hit a solo shot and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Indians. Encarnacion hit a solo homer in the second inning and a two-run bomb in the fifth for Toronto (21-21) to up his total to eight this year. A night after recording a season-high 15 runs and 22 hits, the Indians (19-22) were subdued. Angels 6, Rays 5: Mike Trout's three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a win over the Tampa Bay Rays. National League Giants 6, Marlins 4: The San Francisco Giants scored three runs in the fifth inning and rallied past the Miami Marlins in the opener of a four-game series. San Francisco first baseman Michael Morse drove in three runs with a home run and two singles, and catcher Buster Posey provided a lead-flipping, two-run double as the Giants (27-15) won for the eighth time in their last 10 home games. Brewers 4, Pirates 3: Khris Davis hit a two-run, walk-off single in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh took a 3-2 lead into the ninth inning thanks to home runs by catcher Tony Sanchez and first baseman Gaby Sanchez and strong showing by left-hander Wandy Rodriguez in his first start since coming off the disabled list. Cardinals 5, Cubs 3: Michael Wacha pitched seven strong innings and helped his cause with a two-run single in a four-run second as the Cardinals collected a win over the Chicago Cubs. The St. Louis (21-20) right-hander Wacha (3-3) scattered seven hits and yielded two runs while walking none and fanning five against the Cubs (13-26) for his first win since April 13. Reds 5, Padres 0 (1st game): Brandon Phillips clubbed a three-run home run and Johnny Cueto allowed just three hits in his fourth complete-game shutout, second this season, as the Cincinnati Reds eased to victory over the San Diego Padres in the first game of a doubleheader. Padres 6, Reds 1 (2nd game): Rene Rivera hit a two-run home run, Everth Cabrera and Yonder Alonso added solo shots, and Tyson Ross allowed one run in seven innings, lifting the San Diego Padres to a victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the nightcap of a doubleheader. Ross held Cincinnati (18-21) to three hits for San Diego (20-22), which earned its first series victory on the road this season. Ross (5-3) gave up one run on three hits with five walks and eight strikeouts over his 101 pitches. Inter-League Yankees 1, Mets 0: Alfonso Soriano's RBI double with two outs in the seventh inning snapped a scoreless tie, and four New York Yankees pitchers combined on a three-hitter for a narrow win over the New York Mets.
