JEDDAH — The Pakistan Business (PB) community celebrated the 20th anniversary of Urdu daily newspaper “Urdu News” in Saudi Arabia at Lasani restaurant Tuesday. Consul General Pakistan Aftab Ahmed Khokher presided over the gathering. “It is a great honor for me and all of us to join this event of celebrating the 20 years of Urdu News,” he said, congratulating the newspaper's staff. He added: “Urdu is Pakistan's national language and it is our identification also. As a national language it is our responsibility to fulfill our duties and obligation to promote Urdu as much as we can.” Khoker revealed that according to the NADRA record in Saudi Arabia, 2.3 million Pakistanis are living and Urdu News is doing a good job for them. “It is a bridge between the consulate and community.” He hoped Urdu News will continue to provide positive news of Pakistan's economic growth and cultural dynamism. Editor-in-Chief Tariq Mashkhas was the chief guest at the celebration. He thanked the entire business community for being part of the celebrating. He said: “It has been a work of great team of editors and other staffs who did a great job for the promotion of newspaper. Speaking in Urdu, he said: “Urdu News aap ka hai (Urdu news is yours).” He promised that Urdu News will continue to serve the Pakistani community. Mohammed Asif started the celebration with recitation of a few verses from the Holy Qur'an and its translation. Chairman of Pakistan Business (PB) Community Masood Ahmed Puri welcomed the distinguished guests and audience. He said: “This newspaper is not our necessity, but our weakness.” Chairman of Urdu Academy International Rohail Khan said: “Urdu News is the top 10 newspaper in the Arab and Gulf region.” General Secretary of Pakistan Memon Association Tayyab Mosani praised the services of Urdu News on behalf of the Pakistani community. President Aalami Urdu Markaz Ather Abbasi and poet Zamurrad Saifi presented a poem on the publication of Urdu News. Khan and Abdu Baker Memon presented shields to the Mashkhas. Memon also presented the vote of thanks. The cake-cutting ceremony took place with guests and members of Urdu News.
