BUFFALO — Having obtained star college receiver Sammy Watkins in the NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills traded veteran pass catcher Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers Friday. The Bills obtained a 2015 draft choice, in the third or fourth round depending on how well Johnson performs next season for his new club. Buffalo made a swap with Cleveland to obtain the fourth overall draft pick, moving up five spots in the selection order, and nabbed Watkins, who grabbed 101 passes for 1,464 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games last season for Clemson University. Johnson's departure was also hastened by the Bills' obtaining receiver Mike Williams in a trade last month with Tampa Bay. In six seasons with Buffalo, Johnson caught 301 passes for 3,832 yards and 28 touchdowns. The 27-year-old was a seventh-round pick in the 2008 draft who caught 52 passes for 597 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Bills. “Stevie was a great contributor,” Bills general manager Doug Whaley said. “Today's decision was not an easy one to make, especially involving a player like Stevie who leaves everything he has on the field and is an emotional leader in our locker room.” Bridgewater undergoes tests Minnesota Vikings first round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater revealed that the team tested him for an irregular heartbeat during a pre-draft visit. Bridgewater, the former Louisville quarterback, was taken 32nd overall - the last pick in the first round. Bridgewater said he found out about his condition at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, but does not believe it will present a major problem for him in his NFL career. Bortles to wait his turn Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said Friday that quarterback Blake Bortles, selected third overall in the NFL draft, probably will not be the team's starter in 2014. Chad Henne, who had a 4-9 record as a starter for the Jaguars last season, will remain as the No. 1 quarterback, Caldwell said. — Agencies
