MAKKAH — Police have intervened to release an Ethiopian housemaid who was allegedly abused by her sponsor, Makkah daily reported. A neighbor notified the police that the housemaid was being abused and assaulted by her sponsor. Police summoned the sponsor, who is a teacher, for questioning. A medical team set up by the police examined the abuse and assault marks on the housemaid's body. Subsequently, the sponsor was detained but was later released on bail. A source in Al-Taneem neighborhood police station, said the teacher and his wife were questioned, and it was very clear that the housemaid was subjected to abuse and assault. The source added that the case was referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution for further processing and the housemaid has been lodged at the police station for her safety.
