RIYADH – The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has signed 10 contracts for setting up of six power transformer stations, two overhead link-up lines and purchase of steam condensers at SR4.06 billion, the SPA news agency said on Sunday. The CEO of Saudi Electricity Company Ziyad Muhammad Al-Sheeha, who signed the contracts, said six contracts include the construction of six electricity transformer plants, four of which will be in Wa'd Al-Shimal, Al-Gurayyat, Al-Jouf and Ar'ar in the Northern Frontier Region. The fifth will be in Al-Khafji in the Eastern Province and the other in Al-Madhaya in Jazan. These plants are expected to help increasing SEC's power capacity and boost economic development in these regions. The plants are projected to operate in 29 months from the date the contracts were signed. The seventh contract, which will be carried out within 30 months, includes the construction of a dual overhead line with a voltage of 380 kilovolts between Bisha and east of Taif with a length 201 kilometers and the construction of a 23-kilomter asphalt road between the new eastern Taif plant and the line near the Ministry of Defense. The eighth contract is for setting up a dual overhead line with a voltage of 380 kilovolts between Al-Jouf 2 and Ar'ar central plants. The ninth contract is for the construction of an overhead line linking Tabarjal and Al-Jouf plants with a voltage of 380 kilovolts. The tenth contract will be allocated for the purchase of steam condensers in the 13th and 14th generating plants in Riyadh. — SG
