Three prisoners sustained minor injuries when fighting broke out among 50 inmates of Tabuk General Prison on Thursday night. The fighting started when a group of inmates involved in murder and drug smuggling cases sought to stay together in one room resulting in overcrowding, said Brigadier Sa'ad Al-Thobaiti, chief of Tabuk Prison. They attacked each other with teapots and glass cups. A team of emergency forces, which was summoned when the fighting began, had the situation under control in two hours, Al-Thobaiti said. The 50 inmates were arrested and will be investigated, he said. The capacity of the prison was 400 inmates, but it currently houses 900, he added. An expansion of the prison was approved but the contractor pulled out before signing the contract, he said. – Okaz __
