Deadly diseases such as AIDS and Hepatitis have been found to be common in Saudis entering into wedlock abroad, a field study has said. The study carried out by Dr. Sultan Al-Anqari, Assistant Director General of Crime Research Center at the Ministry of Interior, said a random survey of 3,000 Saudis showed the low educational and social standards of some of the foreign wives. It said this has a negative impact on the cultural and awareness levels of children. The study also covered Saudi wives with foreign husbands. It warned that these marriages were directly responsible for many of the children's sufferings and problems manifested in their constant struggle to obtain the fathers' nationality and lack of financial resources. In view of all these factors, the Ministry of Interior has advised citizens to think twice before applying for marriage outside the country. Most of the Saudis interviewed for the study admitted that they have faced a myriad of problems including burdensome financial obligations after getting married abroad. Several husbands have complained, the study said, over the constant nagging by their wives to get visit visas for their parents and other near relatives. Some other wives demand that Saudi husbands obtain work visas for their relatives, the study said. Many Saudis prefer to marry abroad wary of the high cost of marriage and endless demands of the parents of Saudi brides. But, Saudis traveling abroad for marriage also face endless financial burdens and they are affected psychologically as well due to cultural differences between the Kingdom and the country of the bride. – Okaz __
