All that's new — A look at spring-summer 2014 at New Look
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 05 - 04 - 2014

Saudi Gazette report
New Look launched its spring-summer 2014 womenswear collection and has all stitched up the season with a standout ensemble.
Tomorrow's Yesterday is monochrome at its best; polka dots, gingham and stripes infused with flashes of baby pink, mint green and blue. Blouses tuck into distressed mom cut denim and chunky buckle belts.
This cutting-edge fashion story is packed with intriguing contradictions such as its mix of sporty mesh with glamorous chiffon or the delicate lace trims that edge bold graphic prints.
Eclectic is key to California Dreaming — a mash-up of ethnic and tribal influences that re-defines boho-chic. Think richly colored patchworks and paisleys, elephant-motif prints and neo-vintage florals.
Loose silk tees are teamed with rustic beaded jackets and print matching is key in harem trousers and crop tops. Underpinned by tough ankle-boots or chunky-strap sandals and accessorized with printed backpacks and bold ethnic-look jewelry.
Seattle Grunge mixes mottle-wash denim with surf-inspired tropical florals and palm prints. Combining urban grit with resort glamor, this collection is packed full of statement pieces. Acid wash jeans and jackets sit with flashes of neon pink and a touch of pretty embroidery adds a feminine edge.
Neon Bloom is a high summer story, combining sugary shades and delicate fabrics in a new spin on the art of floral dressing. Skirts are mid-length and intricate in delicate lace and slouched jersey jumpers are updated with statement necklaces for a modern clean look that is incredibly pretty — but fresh too.
These big fashion stories are complemented by New Look's standout shoes and accessories and retro inspired swimwear. Pops of neon, graphic print and clean, structured shapes revitalize shoes and accessories this season. Delicate detailing on pretty pastels adds femininity with embellishment and statement jewels. Tribal is revisited with ethnic beading, Aztec prints and a rich color palette of crimson reds, burnt orange and luxe metallics.
New Look's petites range, launched for Autumn-Winter 2013, is still going strong, with this season's big trends for women 5'3” and underscaled perfectly to fit and flatter.
The Inspire range brings gorgeous trends to plus-size women, with stylish dresses, jeans and tops available up to size 28.
New Look Menswear
Skater is the high fashion trend for SS14. Leather paneling remains prominent throughout but is highlighted with both tropical and dark floral patterns. Matching bold prints on sweats and jackets create an urban edge whilst the bomber hails as the hero-item of the collection. Updated in vivid tropical prints it takes centerstage and injects a dose of ‘wow' factor. Colorful printed snapbacks, contrast high tops and bright bold backpacks are on hand to add flashes of color into the range.
The casual fashion collection uses muted primary colors and understated prints throughout. Checked shirts, chinos in blue, mustard, navy and burgundy and lightweight knits form the base of the trend, with shorts adding an update to the SS14 wardrobe.
SS14 focuses on the fit and cut of the classic suit in the tailoring collection. Tweed and cotton suits are offered in various colors and prints. Matched with tropical shirts, this allows for a different dimension to the usual occasion wear. Shorts and blazers in pastel colors are worn together with desert boots, enabling a casual feel to an otherwise classic look. Lightweight trench coats are an added bonus to an already complete collection, worn alongside printed light scarves and pocket squares to create a sleek and suave look.
Tokyo Laundry
Tokyo Laundry, one of New Look's newest brands, introduces casual and relaxed basics that effortlessly complement New Look's SS14 Menswear Collection.
The collection focuses heavily on the surf scenes of Hawaii, with prints flowing through shirts, shorts and graphic print tees. Teamed perfectly with brightly printed board shorts, they allow a laidback feel to come through the range.
Bold primary colors inject a dose of vibrancy, helping to transform classic chinos with shades of scarlet, cobalt and canary yellow. These tones are highlighted on smart shirts and polo tees. Denim shirts are worn and distressed, and best teamed a crew neck sweater to allow for a relaxed cool.
Tokyo Laundry also offers an urban edge for the forward fashion thinking man whilst creating sporty silhouettes.
Funky Fish
The SS14 collection is a story of fantasy and texture; looking at the different cultures of the world and focusing on their happy moments — carnivals, festivals, parties and friendships.
The Funky Five represents the distinctive trends of Funky Fish – suiting your accessories to your own personal style and mood!
The carnival spirit is evident in the style of Funky Pop. Glitter, tribal patterns and bright fluorescent colors lead the collection creating a fun, party-perfect trend.
Funky Boho is influenced by the world's different cultures. Simple illustrations, graphic print and pops of color lead this style with muted colors of the jungle mixed with pastels and bold reds and pinks.
Funky Chic takes vintage inspirations from the fashionistas of the 60s, with delicate pastel colors and patterns. This style is for the girl who loves to see her life through pink-tinted lenses.
Animal patterns influence the strong style of Funky Diva, with bright materials and lots of bling! This style is red carpet ready, with lots of gold and futuristic prints.
Experimenting is the name of the game for Funky Punky – living on the edge and exploring different colors and textures. This trend makes use of bold fluoro colors and monochrome on a background of neutral tones. Wild patterns and digital prints with a Goth influence makes this the style for the girl who wants to stand out.
For the little girl exploring the world of fashion, Funky Young is perfect. This trend is for the fearless and loves mixes of color to create a fun look.
Funky Fish has standalone stores in Rimal Mall, Al Qasr Mall and Sahara Mall Riyadh; Central Park Al Salam Mall in Jeddah and Dareen Mall and Al Othaim Mall in Dammam. Funky Fish is also available in New Look stores in Mall of Arabia, Madinah Al Noor, Haifa Mall in Jeddah and Hayath Mall, Khurais Mall, Unaiza Mall, Olaya Mall and Salam Mall in Riyadh.
