JEDDAH — Jeddah police have launched an awareness campaign in which short clips will be shown to the general public in an attempt to raise awareness on traffic safety. A number of volunteers will also help distribute leaflets.
The head of Jeddah Traffic Police, Maj. Gen. Wasl allah Al-Harbi, said police will use a large vehicle to screen the short clips of the many traffic violations that drivers commit.
"The vehicle roams Jeddah streets to cover the largest possible area to show motorists these short clips. The clips show the negative effects of speeding, racing, jumping red lights, gathering around accident sites, illegal parking, not using safety belts and other wrong behaviors that may cause accidents and result in the loss of lives," he said.
Maj. Gen. Al-Harbi added that a number of volunteers are cooperating with the traffic police by distributing leaflets at traffic lights, and issuing blank traffic tickets to motorists who commit a traffic violation.
So far, the campaign has been well-received by the public, he said.
Jeddah Governor Prince Mishal Bin Majed has also welcomed the move and expressed his full support for the campaign.
