BANGALORE — Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and leader of Janata Dal (S) H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Monday that he might take on Union petroleum minister M. Veerappa Moily in Chikkaballapur constituency. Kumaraswamy had earlier said that he wouldn't contest parliamentary polls as he wanted to be in state politics. Party chief H.D. Gowda had reiterated that barring himself, none from the family would contest in the polls this time. “Party workers in Chikkaballapur want a family member to contest from there. We had planned to field my wife Anitha. Due to health problems, she had to back out. The party leaders and workers are pressuring me to contest. I'm considering the proposal,” Kumaraswamy told reporters. The former CM quit as a parliamentarian after winning from Ramanagaram in the assembly polls. In the by-poll, his wife Anita lost to Congress's D.K. Suresh. Now, the seat is no longer “safe” for the Gowdas, unlike in the past.
