AREZZO, Italy — Peter Sagan showed off his uphill sprinting skills to win the third stage of the week-long Tirreno-Adriatico race Friday, and Michal Kwiatkowski took the overall lead. Former world champion Philippe Gilbert had the lead until Sagan surged ahead of him and a handful of other riders about 25 meters before the line. Sagan, a Slovak who rides for the Cannondale team, won in 5 hours, 10 minutes, 17 seconds on the 212-kilometer leg from Cascina to the Tuscan town of Arezzo. The last 900 meters of the route featured a 5 percent gradient. Kwiatkowski finished second and Simon Clarke of Australia was third, both with the same time as Sagan. – AP
