ROME — Duncan Weir scored a last-gasp drop goal to help Scotland beat Italy 21-20 Saturday and earn its first victory in this year's Six Nations. Italy was heading for a fourth straight home victory over Scotland after Joshua Furno's first international try which replacement Luciano Orquera converted. A solid second-half performance saw the visitors come back from a 10-point deficit as Alex Dunbar scored two tries with Weir converting the second. Greg Laidlaw missed one kick but weighed in with two penalties. Former Scotland under-20 international Tommaso Allan scored all Italy's points in the first half, including his second international try. Italy remains winless and could now be set for its first wooden spoon since 2011. Captain Sergio Parisse and Martin Castrogiovanni set the Italy caps record with their 104th appearances. “It's all a big blur to be honest,” Weir said. “We had a few chances to go for it. I was in the pocket and ‘Cus' (Chris Cusiter) gave me a lovely ball and the rest is history. “You just have to go back to basics, get your ball drop right, and I managed to execute it. It's a great feeling and I am delighted for the boys we have come away with the win. We can kick on from here now.” “The quality of the match was disappointing,” Italy coach Jacques Brunel said. “It was the worst Italy I've seen since I've been here. We gifted Scotland the chance to win through our mistakes. “We're behind in regards to our ambitions. I want to understand why we were so bad. We have to react. Our defence was good up until a certain point. But then ... we didn't do our part, we can put on very different performances.” In Cardiff, Wales shrugged off a crushing loss to Ireland two weeks ago with an emphatic 27-6 victory over France at the Millennium Stadium Friday that keeps alive its dream of a third successive Six Nations title. Reds beat Brumbies Replacement Chris Feauai-Sautia scored a try three minutes from fulltime Saturday to clinch the Queensland Reds' 27-17 win over the ACT Brumbies in Super Rugby in Caberra. The Reds scored first half tries through Lachie Turner and Aidan Toua to lead 17-9 at halftime but were under heavy defensive pressure throughout the second half which was only relieved by Feauai-Sautia's late try. That try came from an uncharacteristic mistake by Brumbies fullback Jesse Mogg who scored all of his team's points but was also held up over the goalline and knocked the ball on in defense to allow the Reds' last score. Highlanders edge Blues 29-21 In Dunedin, the Highlanders capitalized on a blazing start to upset the Blues 29-21 — four tries to three — in Super Rugby Saturday. Scrumhalf Aaron Smith and center Malakai Fekitoa scored tries from Blues' errors and flyhalf Lima Sopaga kicked two conversions and a penalty to give the Dunedin-based Highlanders a 17-0 lead after only 16 minutes. Fullback Ben Smith added a try in the 39th minute to give the Highlanders a 24-0 lead at halftime and they needed every bit of that advantage to hold out the resurgent Blues in the second spell. — Agencies
