Garcia extends Atletico deal

MADRID — Midfielder Raul Garcia has extended his contract at Spanish title challengers Atletico Madrid until 2018, the club announced on its website Monday. The 27-year-old has been at the club since 2007, after joining from Osasuna, and has scored 14 goals in all competitions this season for Diego Simeone's side. Atletico, which last won the La Liga title in 1996, is level on 60 points with both Barcelona and Real Madrid atop the standings with 14 games remaining. Garcia says “now the only thing to worry about is going forward to achieve all of our objectives. Our hard work is paying off, we just have to maintain our play going forward.” — Agencies
