PERTH — Former South Africa and Australia cricket coach Mickey Arthur has been appointed to a development role within the Western Force Super Rugby franchise. Arthur will head the development program to identify and train teenage players from within the Force region, Australia and overseas. Force chief executive Mark Dinderberry said the franchise would commit an extra $500,000 annually to the program. Arthur, who played rugby in high school in South Africa, coached South Africa's national cricket team before being appointed Australia coach. He held the role for 19 months and was fired immediately prior to last year's Ashes test series in England. — AP
