RIYADH — The Ministry of Labor has lifted a ban preventing Bangladeshi expatriates in the Kingdom from switching jobs and changing professions, according to Ziyad Al-Sayegh, undersecretary for customer services and labor relations at the ministry. An official statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency said labor offices would start processing requests by Bangladeshi workers for transfer of sponsorships to new employers and change of professions stated in their labor and residency permits. The move follows recommendations of a committee comprising representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, culture and information and labor. The committee was formed on the directives from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah following reports that many Bangladeshi workers were unwilling to leave the Kingdom on exit-only visas in view of the difficult living conditions back home.
