The ambivalent responses of the United States toward the Syrian crisis have caused so much sufferings among civilians and gave the brutal regime of Bashar Al-Assad more rooms to attack rebel positions. Obviously, the devilish Assad has outmanuevered the United States and other Western countries in his bid to crush the rebellion which has been running for more than two years now. Because of the US indecision on whether to give the democratic-oriented rebel forces air support to strengthen their struggle to oust Assad from power, the nature of the insurgency in Syria has becom more complicated as it has attracted extremist terror fighters to join the fray and have lately been fighting the moderate rebels themselves to the detriment of the cause to topple Assad from power. The United States should reassess its wait-and-see position and start helping the rebel Free Syrian Army by providing air support to keep the brutal regime from launching air attacks on rebel positions. Syria will never have a democratic government unless the moderate rebels topple the Assad regime and form a transitional government to pave the way for installing a popularly supported democratic government.
