Welshman Stuart Manley carded a four under par 68 took to retain the lead of the Portugal Masters at the halfway stage on Friday. After an impressive opening round 65, Manley's second round effort at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course keeps him one shot ahead of Alvaro Quiros of Spain, who shot a 68. Magnus A Carlsson of Sweden and Scotland's Paul Lawrie shot a 66 and 65 respectively to place themselves a stroke further back on nine under. Manley had led overnight after an opening 65 in which he played his back nine in five under par. And a shining second half of his round, boosted by an eagle at the par five g12th and birdies at the 15th and 16th, has boosted his morale. Carlsson also gave a hint of his potential. The Swede said: “This week, I've been hitting the ball very good off the tee and good iron shots.” Lawrie joined Carlsson on nine under after a bogey free seven under par round of 65. French pair Jean-Francois Lucquin and Gregory Bourdy, Chile's Felipe Aguilar, Jyoti Randhawa of India and Sweden's Robert Karlsson and are all one shot further back on eight under. Kuchar shares lead American Matt Kuchar shrugged off a run of seven missed cuts on the PGA Tour by surging into a share of the early lead in Friday's second round of the Las Vegas Open. A stroke off the pace overnight, Kuchar fired a second successive nine-under-par 63 at the TPC Summerlin to finish level with compatriot Marc Turnesa at 18-under 126. Tour rookie Turnesa, co-leader with Zach Johnson at the start of another benign day in the Nevada desert, spectacularly holed out from 159 yards to eagle the last for a 64. Ken Duke shot a 66 to lie three strokes off the pace at 15 under, one ahead of fellow Americans Chez Reavie (66), Ryan Moore (64) and Chris Stroud (65). Of the big names in the field, 1993 champion Davis Love III carded a 67 to lie nine strokes off the pace, two ahead of former world number one David Duval (68). The cut was projected to fall at six-under with U.S. Ryder Cup captain Paul Azinger in danger of missing out. Johnson, the 2007 US Masters champion, was among the late starters. Pettersen seizes lead In Hawaii, Norway's Suzann Pettersen carded a 4-under-par 68 and holds a one-stroke lead after Thursday's opening round of the $1.5 million Kapalua LPGA Classic. Pettersen birdied three of her final four holes to move ahead of Brittany Lang. Pettersen surpassed Lang, who is at 3-under 69. The 23-year-old Lang, who is seeking her first career Tour win, posted her best finish when she tied for second at the Sybase Classic in May. Lang sank five birdies, including consecutive ones on Nos. 14 and 15. Her only mistakes were bogeys on the par-3 12th and 17th. Tracy Hanson recorded just one birdie in a flawless round but notched a hole-in-one on the par-3 12th. She is tied with Lang at 3
