Fahd Bin Abdulrahman Balghunaim, Minister of Agriculture, spoke on Wednesday on world issues, notably high food prices, climate change and economic, social, and environmental issues, as well as the dangerous expansion in the production of bio-energy at the expense of food. Balghunaim's remarks came in a speech read on his behalf by Saad Bin Ibrahim Al-Fayad, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Agriculture for Fisheries, at a ceremony held on Wednesday with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization on the occasion of World Food Day. World Food Day, which falls on October 16 of each year, aims at promoting greater cooperation between nations to solve the plight of the nearly a billion undernourished people in the world today. “The Kingdom will press ahead with its cooperation with all bodies locally, regionally and internationally, especially with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to achieve sustainable agricultural development and ensure durable food security,” the minister said
