Top seeds Kansas and Memphis booked their spots in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament with convincing victories on Friday while Davidson crashed the party with a shock 73-56 win over Wisconsin. While the Elite Eight will feature the top seeds from each of the four regions, it is the Davidson Wildcats and their dream march into Sunday's Midwest Regional finals who have grabbed the spotlight injecting some drama into the tournament known as “March Madness”. Davidson, a tiny liberal arts school with a small enrolment (1,700) and high tuition ($41,000) better known for the free laundry service it provides for students than its basketball program, has become this season's feel good story. A David among NCAA Goliaths, the 10th seeded Wildcats clawed their way into the last eight by knocking off seventh seed Gonzaga, second seed Georgetown then taming third seeded Wisconsin with the help of another dazzling display from sharp-shooting Stephen Curry, who hit a game high 33 points. The son of former-NBA player Dell Curry, the Davidson sophomore has been the tournament's offensive sensation pouring in 103 points in three games. Tied 36-36 at the half, the Wildcats roared out of the break with a 10-2 run to take charge and continued to punish the reeling Badgers, opening a 67-48 advantage with just under 10 minutes to play and cruising to a comfortable 17 point victory. The Kansas Jayhawks made sure there would not be two upsets in the Motor City on Friday, pounding 12th seed Villanova Wildcats 72-57 to setup a Midwest finals showdown with the giant-killers from Davidson. In contrast, the South Region final in Houston will feature the top two seeds with number one Memphis Tigers taking on number two Texas Longhorns. Led by 27 points from Derrick Rose, Memphis stormed to a 50-20 halftime lead over the Michigan State Spartans then coasted to an easy 92-74 win. The Longhorns, paced by 23 points from D.J. Augustin, swept past third seeded Stanford Cardinal 82-62. Two Final Four berths will be decided on Saturday. __
