Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh recently announced his decision to relinquish charge after the polls in 2014. The fact is that in the last four years, Dr. Singh has played an indifferent innings with the economic growth rate slumping to about four percent and corruption spiraling to the most shocking levels since the independence of the country. It is natural for Dr. Singh to propose Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the future PM of India. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi gave the prime minister's job on a platter to Dr. Singh, since she could not become the PM of India due to the fact that she is not an Indian citizen by birth. So Dr. Singh is indebted personally to Mrs. Gandhi and her family. However, Mr. Rahul Gandhi has no experience in government; he has not even run a simple post office. To entrust this country, the world's largest democracy, to him would be very silly. Dr. Manmohan Singh's deriding of the BJP candidate Mr. Narendra Modi, for the PM's post in 2014, was churlish. To date there has been no concrete evidence that Mr. Modi abetted the riots in Gujarat. This allegation has become a handy tool used to cast aspersions on Mr. Modi. Mr. Modi is a deliverer who has shown he can usher in development in the state under his charge. He now seeks an expanded role. He will face the electorate, who will decide his future. Common citizens like myself are fed up and frustrated with leaders who seek office for personal and financial aggrandizement. India needs men who can deliver development and results
