King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) has been ranked among the top universities in the world by the prestigious QS Times Higher Education World University Ranking (QSWUR). KFUPM was placed 338 out of 400 in the prime ranking list, making it the first university in the region to be honored in the QS Times Higher Education World University Ranking, according to Dr. Khaled S. Al-Sultan, Rector of KFUPM. QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) is a global career and education network, There are over 10,000 institutions of higher learning in the world. In addition, there are 18,000 colleges in India, over 700 in Japan, and over 1,400 in the Philippines. QSWUR is considered the highest ranking systems in the field of higher education. It applies four measurements in ranking universities: research quality, teaching quality, graduate employability, and international outlook. “This external recognition has confirmed that the initiatives and direction implemented by KFUPM actually are aligned to meet its goals and reflects the strides the university has made during the past years,” Al-Sultan said. He said KFUPM's continuously implements strategic plans to improve its academic standing and research visions. Recently it established an endowment fund to support research and teaching, the Dhahran Techno-Valley and Innovation Center, Centers of Research and Excellence in Nanotechnology, Renewable Energy, Petroleum and Refining, and Corrosion. The university has also made investments in an Electronic University System and infrastructure development projects, and formed an International Advisory Board. __
