Ikea cagefest to begin on Oct. 17

The Ikea Community Basketball Tourament will begin at the COCG Basketball court in the Industrial City here Oct. 17.
Dr. Ghassan Ahmed Al-Sulaiman, Chairman of Ghassan Ahmed Al-Suliman Co. Ltd., finalized an agreement for Ikea Home Furnishings to sponsor the tournament. The organizer of the tournament is the Industrial Basketball Arbiter Association (IBAA), headed by Mahmoud Protacio.
Dr. Loay Al-Tayar, GM, PR & Government Affairs of Ghassan Ahmed Al-Sulaiman Development Co., stated that funding the tournament was an effort for Ikea to reach out to the local community and to support sports activities.
The tournament will include five different divisions - International, Inter-Dawah, Non-Rated and Inter-Company Bonafide A & B - for a total of 26 teams. Over 75 trophies and awards will be given to participating teams, players and coaches.
A large number of giveaways will be distributed free to the crowd on each night. The tournament is expected to reach the playoffs and championship games in January, 2009. All games will be played on Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings. __
