JEDDAH – Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry honored on Tuesday Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in appreciation of his commendable services, tireless efforts and remarkable achievements. The function was organized on the occasion of Ihsanoglu ending his tenure as the OIC chief after serving the pan Islamic body for nine years. Former minister of culture and information Iyad Madani will succeed Ihsanoglu as the new secretary general of the 57-member grouping of the Muslim countries. Several prominent figures in the political and business fields as well as ambassadors and consuls general from the Muslim states attended the JCCI function. Addressing the gathering, Saleh Kamel, President of JCCI and Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), described Ihsanoglu as one of the most influential figures in the Islamic world. “This meeting is not to bid farewell to Ihsanoglu but to honor him and thank him for his dedication and sincerity in work and innovation that he has demonstrated. Describing Madani as a creative thinker in the Islamic World, Kamel wished him every success in his new mission. Ihsanoglu gave a brief sketch of major OIC achievements during his tenure. The OIC, he said, has started a series of measures to boost investments and create jobs in member states.
