Authorities in Taif are interrogating a man in a case of domestic violence involving his 14-year-old daughter. Major Turki Al-Shehri, spokesman for Taif Police, said Al-Hawiyah Police received a report that a man had checked his daughter into King Faisal Hospital for treatment of burns and bruises resulting from a “violent beating.” A medical source said the girl, Layla, is in a coma and “battling with death,” adding that she has been given 10 units of blood and will require more. Dr. Hussien Al-Shareef of the National Human Rights Organization in Makkah Province has requested a report on the case from its Taif branch, while the Ministry of Social Affairs is also preparing a comprehensive study before deciding how best to protect and take care of Layla. Layla previously lived with her divorced mother in an Arab country and was brought here by her father several months ago. Investigations are under way to find out whether the father alone is responsible, and police hope to question his daughter as and when she comes out of the coma. – Okaz __
