A number of MPs noted some glaring inconsistencies in the briefing itself and what the top political leadership has been saying on certain aspects of the presentation given by the Director General, Military Operations, (DGMO) to the joint parliamentary session. While the DGMO reportedly said there was no US assurance for not breaching Pakistan's territory, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have repeatedly publicly said that President George W. Bush has assured that the country's sovereignty would not be violated by the US. Elaborating, a participant of the joint sitting told this correspondent, President Zardari has been quoted as having stated in a recent interview to a US media outlet that American drones fly in Pakistan's sovereign air zone with Islamabad's permission. Pointing out another inconsistency in the briefing itself, the MP said that the joint session was told on its first day that concerned authorities got the three video films of brutal slaughtering by the Taleban, also shown to the joint sitting, from the open market as the Taleban had released them to create scare and panic among those opposed to their activities. But, he said, during the question-answer session, the MPs were informed that authorities retrieved these videos from a laptop that they captured during a clean up operation in South Waziristan. An MP quoted the DGMO as having told the joint session that there was no American “assurance on the official record” of Pakistan that the United States will not violate Pakistan's airspace in the tribal areas. “But we have reservations to such violations (by US drones or other attacks),” he was further quoted as having told the MPs on the second day of the in-camera joint session on Thursday. Asked further whether there was anything on the official record showing that the US had assured Pervez Musharraf that there would be no infringement of Pakistan's sovereignty by the US forces, the DGMO, according to the MP, said that he was not aware of it. __
