Salim Sahab Al-Madinah One can write books on how some employees neglect their duties and always find ways to leave the workplace early without completing the mandatory number of hours. They always come up with excuses in order to not show up for work and do their jobs as they should. On Nov. 29, Al-Madinah daily published a study that showed how this catastrophic practice is viewed by citizens. Yes, it is a catastrophe that is getting worse day after day. Failure to do one's duties honestly and responsibly can be contagious because many employees might get tempted and follow the lead of negligent colleagues. The number of honest employees is very few although they are at risk of turning into negligent ones, especially if and when they find themselves not getting any perks or salary increases while their negligent colleagues receive lots of benefits. It seems that negligent employees are forming a strong lobby that exercises pressure on those who try to fight their irresponsible behavior. In fact, they are waging a ferocious war. In the beginning, a negligent employee would try to defend himself verbally. But if his superior deducts his salary or does not give him a raise, the employee would move mountains to influence his superiors' decision. If he failed to do so, he would try to talk to someone in a higher position than his superior. If this someone does not help, the employee would try to find someone else in a higher position. He would continue to do this and waste a lot of time and effort until he gets his way. Shockingly enough, the employee is ready to spend a lot of time and make an effort for this purpose but he is not ready to dedicate half of that time and effort to do his job. Of course, there are honest and faithful employees who work hard to earn every penny of their salaries. Hats off to them.
