Do you know what an app is? App is short for “application.” It's a software program that is especially created to work on a smartphone or tablet computer. Did you know that kids can make apps? An American boy, Jordan Casey started programming when he was nine years old, and this year, at the age of 13, he has four apps for sale at Apple's App Store! That's amazing! There are many apps created for kids. Let me show you three new ones that you might like. From Travelzoo comes “Map the World.” This free iPad app aims to help children learn about the world in which they live. There's also the Bubble Pop! Math Challenge app for Android or iOS that makes math fun. Players of the app race to solve math problems by popping bubbles that show the correct answers…before they splash into the pond! The Bubble Pop Addition Challenge is free to play. The final free app to try is called, “Halos Fun,” and it's also for iOS or Android. In the game, three rascally raccoons steal all the halos from a graduating class of mandarins. Mandarins are tasty little orange-colored citrus fruits. The mandarins must win back and collect their halos by being fired out of a slingshot and ping-ponging through a series of more than 100 colorful levels. The easy way to get this game is at halosfun.com/free-halos-game.
