With regard to the article "Rains make a mockery of the Kingdom's drainage projects" (Nov. 22), I would like to point out that the reason for this is 90 percent corruption and 10 percent incompetence. Look at any government projects big or small - flyovers, underpasses, sewage or road repairs - and you will find that the quality of work is so poor that even a blind person can see it. But, unfortunately, the concerned authorities don't seem to notice that anything is wrong. There seems to be no accountability at all. As a matter of fact, both corruption and incompetence are rampant in all government departments and unfortunately are on the rise. We only read statements about how wrong this is, but see no action being taken against these vices. Azhar, Online response II. Our drainage system seems to be barely capable of carrying the daily sewage from our houses. Anyone will tell you that if the diameter of the drainage pipes is small, low lying areas will be flooded when it rains. I think the concerned authorities must have watched too many English movies in their childhood where burglars use the sewage system to commit crimes. As a result they seem to have developed a phobia against installing bigger pipes. The solution is to treat their mindset. Abu Ahmed, Online response
