Philippine Sunrise International School (PSIS) recently organized a symposium highlighting its new e-learning educational program, online classes and school management. Symposium began with the opening speech by Engr. Dawood Engay, PSIS Chairman of the Board followed by Vice Consul Lorenzo Rhys H. Jungco. A greeting message was heard from Dr. David Guralnick, President of IELA based in New York, USA. Mrs. Ofelia A. Laguardia, PSIS Principal and Cuan Mackenzie spoke on the “Importance of e-Learning in Elementary and Secondary Education.” The E-learning program was presented by Eli P. Sarmiento. “With this emerging information and instructional technologies and their influence on teaching and learning, it is vital to equip the teachers with the necessary skills to cope with these developments and utilize their benefits in teaching and learning,” said Mrs. Laguardia. E- learning enables the parents to monitor the performance, keeping the record of attendance, assignments/activities, awards, result of standardized tests, grades in all subjects, student's organizations, messages (diary), discipline, fees, etc of their children by accessing through internet. “This module is designed for the students who wish to enhance their skills in various subjects such as, English communication arts, mathematics, science, computers etc. It provides quality self-paced, learner-centered education through the development and delivery of quality web-based lessons/courses that can be carried out completely online,” said Sarmiento. “To further enhance the teaching and learning effectiveness through the development of interactive web-based supplementary material to traditional lessons, it is of paramount importance to provide the PSIS teaching force with the necessary trainings and workshops related to the development and delivery of online material,” Eng. Engay remarked. Beside the e-learning program the management also announced that the Board of Directors decided to offer monetary incentives to topnotch students who will pass the college entrance examinations of University of the Philippines (UPCAT), De La Salle University, Taft and Ateneo De Manila University. __
