Abdulkarim Al-Dhiyabi Okaz/Saudi Gazette TAIF — Al-Hawiyah Municipality in Taif caught red-handed an Asian cleaning worker who would sell meat from dead sheep and other animals that had already been dumped to restaurants. The cleaner would regularly visit a dumping ground for animal carcasses over the weekend. He would then sell the meat to restaurants that sold dishes such as mandi and fried dishes at low prices. Municipality supervisor Bandar Al-Ossaimi decided to monitor the location after Fajr prayer. He observed the cleaning worker carrying a dead sheep in a nylon sack on his shoulder. The worker took the carcass to a far off place where he skinned the animal, cut it to pieces and then sold the meat to restaurants. Vehicles belonging to the restaurants were in the vicinity ready to take the meat. The worker admitted his crime when Al-Ossaimi confronted him. He said he was collecting meat from the carcasses for a long time as it provided him with an income to compensate for the nonpayment of his already low salary. He said he was encouraged by the restaurants that purchased the meat from him daily. SR5,000 cash was found in his possession. The worker was handed over to Al-Hawiyah police station and his company was informed. An source said Al-Hawiyah Municipality usually carries out inspection tours of restaurants and is always keen to prevent such violations. Local residents called on the municipality to prevent members of the public from dumping dead animals near their homes.
