Published in The Saudi Gazette on 08 - 10 - 2008

Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister, Defense and Civil Aviation Minister and Inspector General, inaugurated Tuesday the Fahd Bin Sultan University in Tabuk.
On his arrival at the venue Prince Sultan was received by Prince Fahd Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Tabuk and Chairman of the University's Board of Trustees and senior officials. Prince Sultan pleaded to the University's authorities to accept 50 orphans and disabled students to enroll in the university at his expense as a humanitarian gesture.
In an address Prince Fahd Bin Sultan thanked the Crown Prince for laying the foundation stone of the university five years ago and opening it now.
“When we speak about education in the country we speak about people's and country's building for they are integral part and complementary to each other. There is no progress without education,” he said.
Prince Fahd also underlined the farsightedness of the founder of the modern Kingdom King Abdul Aziz who while founding the Kingdom on faith thought of the inevitability of education as one of the major pillars of the country.
He said this stems from the strong belief of the founder that Islamic Civilization finds its roots on genuine Faith and education however this explains the reason behind giving utmost care for education.
Prince Fahd said after him his sons have been following in his footsteps as manifested in the professional institution spreading all over the Kingdom including Tabuk private university which has been designed according to the latest and highest international standards.
Dr. Riyadh Sahdeed acting President of King Fahd Bin Sultan University thanked Crown Prince Sultan for opening the university pointing that the university has been designed in a way to become the first research university in the Kingdom.
He said being a research center the university will effectively contribute to the development of the region and society stressing that the university will be accredited by prestigious universities within and outside the Kingdom for its outstanding and sophisticated academic standard.
Dr. Fatima Salama, the university's deputy president for Girls Affairs, said the university has derived its curricula from where others stopped thus its educational programs have been designed in a way to meet the requirements of the local markets.
