Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 11 - 2013

NEW YORK — Buffalo forward Cody Hodgson beat Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi in the fourth round of the shootout to give the lowly Sabres a 5-4 upset win Tuesday.
Buffalo jumped out to a 3-1 lead when right winger Tyler Ennis needed only 15 seconds to convert the Sabres' first power play of the game 80 seconds into the third period.
But the Sharks struck back to tie it with goals 70 seconds apart from Tyler Kennedy and rookie left winger Tomas Hertl.
Both teams exchanged another goal in the third before San Jose (10-1-4) dropped their third straight game.
Coyotes 3, Canucks 2 (SO): Center Antoine Vermette scored in the sixth round of the shootout and the Phoenix Coyotes ran their winning streak to five games with a victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
Phoenix (11-3-2) has won seven of its eight games and has points in 12 of its last 13.
Blues 3, Canadiens 2 (SO): Right wing T.J. Oshie scored in the shootout, and goalie Jaroslav Halak did not allow a goal in the tiebreaker to give the St. Louis Blues a win over the Montreal Canadiens.
Halak turned aside the Montreal shooters and finished with 25 saves as the Blues (9-2-2) won for the fourth time in five games. Alex Steen scored his league-leading 13th goal in the winning effort.
Wild 5, Flames 1: The Minnesota Wild overcame a sluggish start, using a pair of goals by top-line left winger Zach Parise to rally for a win over the Calgary Flames.
Trailing 1-0 early and being outshot by a wide margin, the Wild (9-4-3) flipped the script and scored a quintet of unanswered goals. Center Mikko Koivu, rookie right winger Justin Fontaine and center Zenon Konopka added goals as the Wild won for the sixth time in their past seven games.
Hurricanes 2, Flyers 1 (OT): Center Manny Malhotra scored his first goal as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes with 2:20 left in overtime, lifting the team to a victory against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Stars 3, Bruins 2 (SO): Former Boston centers Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley, traded to Dallas during the offseason, both scored in a shootout to give the Stars a victory over the Bruins.
Capitals 6, Islanders 2: Alex Ovechkin scored a pair of power-play goals and Nicklas Backstrom picked up three assists to help give the Capitals their third straight victory.
Senators 4, Blue Jackets 1: Defenseman Erik Karlsson had two goals, and left winger Clarke MacArthur and right winger Chris Neil also scored for the Senators, who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Oilers 4, Panthers 3 (OT): The Edmonton Oilers blew a two-goal lead before rallying to snap a five-game losing streak, beating the Florida Panthers in overtime. — Agencies
