NEW YORK — Buffalo forward Cody Hodgson beat Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi in the fourth round of the shootout to give the lowly Sabres a 5-4 upset win Tuesday. Buffalo jumped out to a 3-1 lead when right winger Tyler Ennis needed only 15 seconds to convert the Sabres' first power play of the game 80 seconds into the third period. But the Sharks struck back to tie it with goals 70 seconds apart from Tyler Kennedy and rookie left winger Tomas Hertl. Both teams exchanged another goal in the third before San Jose (10-1-4) dropped their third straight game. Coyotes 3, Canucks 2 (SO): Center Antoine Vermette scored in the sixth round of the shootout and the Phoenix Coyotes ran their winning streak to five games with a victory over the Vancouver Canucks. Phoenix (11-3-2) has won seven of its eight games and has points in 12 of its last 13. Blues 3, Canadiens 2 (SO): Right wing T.J. Oshie scored in the shootout, and goalie Jaroslav Halak did not allow a goal in the tiebreaker to give the St. Louis Blues a win over the Montreal Canadiens. Halak turned aside the Montreal shooters and finished with 25 saves as the Blues (9-2-2) won for the fourth time in five games. Alex Steen scored his league-leading 13th goal in the winning effort. Wild 5, Flames 1: The Minnesota Wild overcame a sluggish start, using a pair of goals by top-line left winger Zach Parise to rally for a win over the Calgary Flames.
