Winners of King Abdullah Translation Awards

u King Fahad Complex for the Printing of Glorious Qur'an won the Translation award for institutions. “The Complex won for their great value and quantity of distinguished works of translation it administrates, and funds,” said Saeed Al-Saeed, head of the scientific committee of the award.
“The complex is one of the most prominent establishments that contribute greatly to the translation of the Qur'an, presenting translations into 50 Asian, European and African Languages,” said Saeed.
In addition to their translation efforts, the Complex has also organized a symposium on the different translations of the Qur'an and established a translation center.
The center encompasses a number of specialized units that study and conduct analytical research projects with the intentions of providing more refined translations of the Qur'an and excluding those of lesser quality or of lower precision.
The Center has established a network for translators in different languages and built a comprehensive and easily accessible database for translations of the Qur'an in many languages.
Along with translation and publishing the Holy Qur'an, the Complex also publishes a reference journal of scholarly articles on translations of the Sunnah and related issues.
Saudi professor of technical engineering Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Muhaidib and Egyptian Ahmad Fouad Basha jointly won the award in translations in Natural Science from other languages into Arabic.
Muhaidib won for this translation from English into Arabic Geotechnical Engineering: Soil Mechanics by John N. Cernica. The book presents a detailed study of the physical properties of soil and their effects on soil resistance to loads and soil stability.
Ahmad Basha won for his Arabic translation of the English book, “The Odd Quantum” by Sam Treiman, which offers interesting explanations of modern theories in physics. The book highlights the significance of the quantum theory and explores its board application. “The translation is characterized by clarity and accuracy,” said Saeed.
Moroccan Abdulsalam Al-Shaddadi and Italian Claudia M. Tresso jointly won translation award in Humanities and Social sciences – from Arabic into other languages. Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Shaddadi won for his translation from Arabic into French “Muqadimat Ibn Khaldun, Kitabu Al'ibar”, which is considered one of the most circulated and widely read intellectual works in the field of humanities. “This book is significant and of core value, not only for Arab and Islamic heritage but also for global ideology,” said Saeed Al-Saeed, head of scientific committee of the award. “The translation is characterized by soundness and accuracy, Moreover its language conforms to the quality and eloquence of the Arabic original.”
Dr. Claudia M. Tresso won for her translation from Arabic into Italian of Ibn Batuta's “Tuhfat Alnodhar fi Ghara'ib Alamsar wa Aja'ib Alasfar”, which is considered an important source of comparative historical studies. “The translator excelled in her choice, presented a high quality translation that preserves the spirit of the source text and maintains the basic features of the Arabic original in terms of form and content,” said Saeed.
Egyptian Salih Sadawi Salih won the translation award in Humanities and Social Sciences – from other languages into Arabic. Dr. Salih Salih won for his translation for Turkish into Arabic of the “Misir'da Turkler ve Kulturel Mirsalari” from Akmalaldeen Ihsan Oghli, which is considered one of the most important references of the Ottoman era and its cultural influence in Egypt.
The book traces the cultural presence of the Ottomans and Turks from its early beginnings through the different stages of its developments. __
