Germany coach Loew extends contract

FRANKFURT — Germany coach Joachim Loew has extended his contact past the World Cup by another two years. The German Football Federation announced the deal Friday. Loew's original contract ran through next year's World Cup but the federation wanted an early extension to avoid any distractions during the tournament in Brazil. Loew has been head coach since 2006, when Jurgen Klinsmann stepped down following a third-place finish at the World Cup in Germany. Loew will celebrate his 100th match in charge when Germany plays Italy in Milan on Nov. 15. Loew's record is 68 wins, 16 draws and 15 losses. But Germany has yet to win a major title under Loew, finishing second at the 2008 European Championship and reaching the semifinals at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. — AP
