Around 40 women – of all ages– participated in the Qur'an recitation competition here. Many new Muslim converts took part in the six-category competition organized by the Jeddah Dawah Center in Saudi German Hospital's auditorium on Thursday. The participants who have recently come into the fold of Islam have great enthusiasm for understanding and memorizing the Qur'an, said Academic Supervisor Abeer Hasan. Students in the center learn and memorize the Holy Qur'an according to their mental strength and there is no time-frame imposed on them, Hasan said. The center also teaches women the Shariah (Islamic law) viewpoint concerning their affairs and teaches them that they are “spiritually and intellectually equal” to men.
