Sheikh Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Jabrein, a member of the Board of Senior Ulema, has called for charity and support for the Saudi Society for Helping Cancer patients through the paying of the Zakat or other means. The charity cares for cancer sufferers while also assisting them in paying for the cost of treatment. During the first half of this year alone, over 3,000 patients of both genders were cared for in a variety of ways by the society. Sheikh Al-Jabrein's permission was received by the charity in a letter indicating the permissibility of using Zakat funds to benefit the sick, Al-Riyadh Arabic daily said. Meanwhile, Ministry of Social Affairs has shown its readiness to hand over Zakat, alms and donations to needy families enrolled in the charitable societies. The ministry said in a statement that there were 464 charitable societies which have been verified by it. The Ministry called upon the Zakat payers not to distribute their Zakat and alms to beggars roaming on streets. __
