Esa wins Chevrolet 2nd round
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 25 - 09 - 2008

Esa topped the podium for the second time this season by winning the 2nd round of Chevrolet Speed Star competition at Iskan Al-Khobar park last week.
On a Ramadan night with full of enthusiasm and spirit Al-Esa, driving his Lumina SS car, led the podium winners clocking the best time of 00:52.800 on the second day. The event, which was organized by Abdullah Bakhshab Est. for motor sport development, was attended by enthusiastic spectators including women and children who enjoyed the two-day high-speed action.
The race began after grouping the participants into four classes based on the capacity of the engine of their cars, its power and its production year. The vehicles were standard six cylinders, modified six cylinders, modified eight cylinders and standard eight cylinders. After the technical test on the first day, every participant had to make a free tour through the track. The drivers then had two trials to collect the best time.
Eyad Al-Najjar came second clocking 00:53.257 driving his red standard 8 cylinder Lumina SS. Abdulhadi Al-Qahtani stood third in his standard 6 cylinder Lumina SS, clocking 00:53.694
Drifting is a high skill, high powered motor sport that calls for drivers to control a car while it slides at high speeds through a marked course. It is similar to rally racing, but is done on a closed paved course. It is judged on execution and style rather than just who finishes the course the fastest.
Ahmad Al-Esa, a phenomenon in the exciting motorsport and the winner of Chevrolet Speed Star 2008 Championship's first round in Jeddah, charged through the grueling qualification process and winning the tandem battle on the first day. On the second day Al-Esa managed to defeat Eyad Al-Najjar and finish on top.
This is the second year of the Chevrolet Speed Star series - the first national championship series in the Kingdom. The third round will be held in Hail. __
