The budding cricketers of Jeddah dazzled in the Nestle Milo Under-13 Inter-School Tournament which is sponsored by Nestle Product Company and organized by Western Province Cricket Association and Pakistan International School (ES) at the PIS-ES grounds here.
This unique tournament has special rules for the emerging cricketers. A four will fetch six runs and a six will be counted as ten.
In the first match of Group A, Furqan of PISJ-ES hit the first four on the first ball of the innings toward mid-on against Hala International. He hit the first six of the tournament in the square-leg region in the same over.
He remained unbeaten on 55 in 17 deliveries. His partner Ahmad too excelled with a brisk 87 off just 13 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes.
The total reached to 156 in 5 overs. Waleed of Hala Blues conceded 45 runs in his over.
In response, Hala Blues responded with some cautious batting. Saad remained unbeaten on 50 facing only 10 deliveries and hitting 4 sixes and 1 four while Waleed scored 44 with 5 hits to boundary and 1 six. Hala Blues reached 112 at the end of the innings and PISJ won the match by 45 runs.
In the first match of Group B, Hala White took the charge against Jeel Al-Jadeed from the first ball. Fahim slammed a huge six on mid-on off Ammar. He turned more aggressive against Zohaib in the second over. Slogging and sweeping him over midwicket and picking gaps on the leg side he dazzled for 60 runs.
He slammed a maiden century by dancing down the track and lofting Anas inside-out for a six.
The team tallied 225 while he remained not out on 149. His partner Noor scored a rapid 57 in 10 deliveries and produced an amazing partnership of 218 with Fahim.
Responding to the mammoth total, Jeel Al-Jadeed played a dreadful innings and was bundled out for 26, the lowest total so far in the tournament. Zohaib went for a big one on the first ball and was caught and bowled brilliantly by Saad Sleem.
Ammar was out on the next ball. Saad bowled a maiden over with 2 wickets. Only captain Moheet Kumar scored 6 runs. Abdul Wasey, Osama and Areeb took one wicket each for 10, 6 and 9 runs respectively. Hala White won by 198 runs.
In the second match of Group-A, Al-Beladi scored 115 against PISJ White. This was Al-Beladi's first ever encounter with the hard ball. Jawad opened up from the first ball by hitting a six. Jawad scored 37 with 4 fours and 1 six and Omer Younis made a brisk 42. Hamza hit 2 sixes on two consecutive balls before giving his wicket to Irfan. Babar Toor was the most economical bowler capturing 2-14 while Irfan claimed 2-17.
Chasing a moderate total, PISJ White struggled. Opener Ahmad chose aerial routes and his first six was a slash off Ahmed Al-Belladi.
He fell for 43. Furqan found the chase harder till the fourth over when Saleh Ahmad joined him and hit 1 four and 2 consecutive sixes on last 3 balls. Furqan plundered sixes in the last over and PISJ White won by 4 wickets.
