I am writing with regard to the report “Nairobi attack puts spotlight on mall safety” (Sep. 26). Once again innocent people have been killed and injured in a shooting spree. The massacre at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya and the recent bomb blast at a church in Peshawar, Pakistan are condemnable. This is the worst kind of terrorism one could ever imagine. Mankind has made tremendous progress in almost every field but has failed to find a way to coexist in a peaceful environment. Instead of becoming compassionate, people seems inclined to indulge in wicked acts in the name of religion. The purpose of religion is to direct our thoughts and deeds toward a noble purpose. Unfortunately, this purpose has been misused and abused. All of the world's religions teach peace. The main cause for disharmony is not religion, but individuals and groups with sick ideologies. A multi-dimensional approach is required if the scourge of terror attacks is to be eliminated from the world. So, as a human being, my heart goes out in sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones in the Nairobi and Peshawar terrorist attacks. May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in peace.
