Khaled Al-Suleiman Okaz Some owners of private schools and investors have become totally unreasonable when it comes to increasing school fees. If the government does not take immediate action against such acts and put an end to this madness, then getting an education in a private school for one's children will be just as difficult as owning a home. I ask the government the following: who is to blame for the unrestrained increases in school fees? There are three government departments involved in this case; the ministry of education, commerce and industry, and labor. They all are tossing the ball to each other, quite similar to our football players passing the ball to each other without scoring. The problem is that increasing school fees has become an annual practice. There is no justification for the increase nor is it based on acceptable criteria or evaluation. No one is monitoring the increases or bringing justice to the family of students paying exorbitant fees. One thing to be mentioned here is that the government provides private schools with support for each enrolled student. The government also pays the salary of the school principal and half the salary of each teacher and employees. Despite this, private schools are like the black hole in the space that swallows everything. It is about time to put an end to the greed of these private schools. The fees need to be fixed or the government should bear some of the tuition costs. Private schools fees are a heavy burden on parents. Education is not a luxury; it is a necessity.
