YAOUNDE — Cameroon beat Libya 1-0 Sunday to clinch the final place in Africa's World Cup playoffs and end the conflict-racked country's qualifying campaign. Defender Aurelien Chedjou's goal three minutes before halftime settled Group I on the last day of group games, seeing the four-time African champion through to the 10-team playoffs. Libya needed to win to produce a major shock and progress instead. In Johannesburg, Kenya ended a five-match win drought in the qualifying competition by edging visiting Namibia 1-0 also Sunday. Defender David Owino scored after five minutes in Nairobi to earn the ‘Harambee Stars' maximum points from their final mini-league fixture. The result meant a change of positions on the final standings with Kenya climbing to third and Namibia dropping to last place. African champion Nigeria won Group F Saturday by defeating Malawi 2-0 in Calabar as it looks to qualify for its second straight World Cup after going out in the first round in South Africa. Zimbabwe and Mozambique drew 1-1 in Harare, leaving the southern Africa neighbors winless after six Group G matches each. Egypt was runaway winner of the group and completes its schedule Tuesday at home to second-placed Guinea in El-Gouna. In other game Sunday, Togo beat Congo 2-1, while Benin blanked Rawanda 2-0. Cameroon's final-day progression was the seventh of the 10 groups to be decided on the final weekend. Cameroon joined top-ranked African team Ivory Coast, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso and surprise packages Ethiopia and Cape Verde in the crucial playoffs, which start next month. Cairo hosts a seeded draw on Sept. 16 that will divide the 10 survivors into five ties, and the winners go to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. — Agencies
