Known opposition hawk Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has emerged as the most powerful and relevant person in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after the Sharif brothers as he now simultaneously wears two prestigious caps of the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Khan was the great hardliner vis-à-vis the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) during the previous talks between the two parties and had locked horns with PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari more than once on a variety of issues. “Once Zardari hit the roof when Khan delivered a long monologue against Rehman Malik, Salman Farooqi, Siraj Shamsuddin and Hussain Haqqani in a very hard hitting manner, dilating on the highly damning public perception about them, asserting that their presence at the top official positions has brought immense bad name to the government,” a source told this correspondent. At the time, the PML-N was part of the ruling federal alliance. However, Zardari had simply ignored Khan's pleas against his choice nominees. “It is an admitted fact that while the PPP has been shy of exposing the prolonged massive misrule and mis-governance of the Musharraf government for being bound by some undisclosed agreements or deals, the PML-N is too boisterous to advertise the wrongdoings and misdeeds of the former president,” the source said. That is why the PPP has consented to Khan's elevation as the PAC chief, he added. The source said that the PAC under the PML-N would constantly remain engaged in digging out “illegalities” that took place during Musharraf's rule and would keep summoning various senior serving and retired officials for questioning and assistance. __
